Choose among interactive conference sessions throughout Santiago that celebrate the history ,
community and culture that frame the vibrant health of Cuba’s “most Caribbean

  • Promote your health with stress-relief morning exercises at the hotel, joined by neighborhood residents
  • Learn about the region’s fresh food sources from members of farming cooperatives, joining them in lush mountainside fields and later for lunch, to enjoy their crops and learn the recipes that make this culinary region of Cuba unique. And down the hill, you’ll visit a community clinic and other local services.
  • Interact with people protecting and enriching Cuba’s natural ecosystems…from school children, to community project leaders and specialists at the “Bird of Paradise” Botanical Gardens in the Gran Piedra Nature Reserve.
  • Explore the complex history that entwines Cuba, the United States and Spain, with a historian’s session that includes San Juan Hill, site of a famed battle to defeat Spanish colonialists after Cuban fighters had nearly secured independence. Roles of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, the “Buffalo Soldiers”, Cuban General Calixto García and the Cuban “Mambises”…depicted in surprising and moving monuments there today.
  • Hear from young Haitians studying at the Latin American School of Medicine, eastern campus, and from their professors—many of whom were first responders in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
  • Appreciate Santiago’s rich belief systems and cultural heritage: the Virgin of Charity El Cobre Sanctuary, the Monument to the Runaway Slave and the “House of the Caribbean”, all reflections of the interwoven past that distinguishes Santiago.
  • Enjoy interactive performances by some of Santiago’s great percussionists and other musicians at the Saturday Evening Closing Gala, simply unforgettable!
  • And walk the walk of history, into the headquarters of the Rebel Army high in the Sierra Maestra mountains, an all-day session with local historians.
